Thank you to all the participants of the July 13-15 teaching workshop in Seattle for making the session both productive and fun (it wasn't all about the shoes!) They have suggested that we use this weblog to share links, rubrics, articles, tips on teaching, etc. I will post requests for specific information on a regular basis (such as asking that you share your makeup policy or a rubric you use to grade student presentations) and ask that you respond in the comment section so that everyone can benefit. Also, feel free to e-mail me if you want to do a "national survey" on any particular topic.
To start with, the Director, Tony Irving, is trying to decide where to schedule the Chautauqua workshops for next summer. So far, we are considering New York City for Workshop II in June and Vancouver for Workshop I in July. Please use the comment section to let me know if you think these sites work or if you have other suggestions.
I wish you would consider having a conference in the southern United States, since East (NY) West (Seattle) and North (Canada, Iowa?) are currently being represented, but we could use one in the southern states somewhere.

I had mentioned this to the Chautauqua Director but he is concerned that it is too hot there in the summer months for people to want to travel south (by the way, it's 96 degrees today in Iowa!) Any suggestions on universities that would be willing to have us hold a workshop there? I was thinking Dallas, San Antonio, or perhaps somewhere in New Mexico?

How about SantaFe in early January before classes begin?

I apologize for replying so late. I'm certain that the University of North Texas would be willing to host a workshop? May and June are usually not too hot in Denton, TX, relatively speaking.

Hi Kim,
I like the idea of holding a workshop at UNT. Who would I contact to coordinate the local arrangements (catering, suggestions on housing, finding a room, etc)? Tony Irving (Chautauqua Director) and I will be discussing locations for next summer over the next few weeks.
